HLHS patients who have undergone surgical treatment or transplants can live a fairly normal life after treatment; however, HLHS kids will generally tire more quickly and should avoid contact sports. Most remain on some heart medications after treatment. Since the treatments are relatively new, little is known about the long-term effects, except that the "pioneer" teenagers are doing extremely well. |
