night/light

Night/Light: Poem by Krey Hampton

~~~~~
When life has thrown you in the deep,
Or left you curled up in a heap,
In limbo between wake and sleep,
Alone with no more tears to weep,
If in that moment you could see,
The arms of pure divinity,
Not God's alone, but of your friends,
Outstretched to lend their helping hands,
If somehow you could see that light,
Which pierces through the dark of night,
We hope you'd feel a lighter load,
As you march down your uphill road.
~~~~~

If we could play some little part,
And help to mend your war-torn heart,
Please know that each of us would take,
A drop of water from your lake,

From battlefields a blade of grass,
A second from your hourglass,
A single brick from your Great Wall,
A thread from snares that seize your soul,

A pebble from your pack of rocks,
A splinter from your heavy cross.
If somehow you could add it up,
We'd take from you this bitter cup.

~~~~~
But even if each heartfelt prayer,
Of ours could lift what's yours to bear,
We know it's not just us alone,
We're joined by angels from God’s throne,
Sent straight to you by His command,
To bear you up and help you stand.
So if the dimmest little dot,
Could map the spot of every thought,
And just a single candle's light,
Could mark each prayer for you tonight,
The total sight would be so bright,
We'd light the sky like dynamite!
